While affiliating with American Trust Co. in Hawaii from 1984 to 1989, as a consultant and 401(k) specialist, Mr. Mazda designed marketing programs and presented to companies and individuals, structuring 175 retirement plans valued at nearly $60 million.

Electing to move to Hawaii in 1981, Steve joined Manufacturers Financial with the express purpose of providing himself a platform from which he created a brand by developing a new retirement plan, PPAP, a hybrid ESOP/401(k), allowing principal and interest deductions over full amortization periods of loans. With the plan, he established a strong competitive advantage, positioning himself to structure one-third of the first 200 401(k) plans in the nation. It was during this period that he became actively engaged in lobbying to save the 401(k) plan from the congressional budget ax of Lloyd Bentson, Bob Packwood and Dan Rostenkowski of the Senate Finance Committee.

In 1979, Steve was recruited to Barclay Associates to increase sales effectiveness in the field of qualified retirement plans for closely held businesses. Very soon, he took over more and more roles, becoming a key participant in creating telemarketing programs that enabled $1 million annual life insurance premiums. His communications skills were quickly recognized when he was able to reach people like Lee Iacocca, Andrew McNally III of Rand McNally, Walter Annenburg of T.V. Guide and August Busch III of Anheuser-Busch.

Recently, Steve was asked by Washington insider, Sam Beard, to become a national co-chair of Economic Security 2000, a national grass roots lobby group for partial privatization of Social Security. In addition to disseminating information via Internet, www.401kcity.com, Steve speaks to business groups, chambers of commerce, and others in support of the group's positions.
